Business Model assessment, design & implementation

What we do

Need a new direction in your business? Or to understand the improvement needs in the frame of global trends? Or to shop for the new ideas, approaches, tools?

Business Models Inc. is an international business model design boutique who helps start-ups, entrepreneurs, management teams and corporations to analyse, design and implement (new) business models and provides the tools needed to do it. New problems need a new approach. Sometimes all you need is a business model canvas, energy of the team and somebody to keep you on track. That is what Business Models Inc. can bring together.

Strategy

Are you wondering if strategy is needed at all or how to keep your strategy up to date in this turbulent environment?

First there is a strategy and then comes the business model to implement it. Strategy depends on the customer insight, on the business environment, on the vision, on where and how you want to position in the market, on your strategic capability etc.

Our methodology, described in the section Model Support, brings together both setting the strategic direction as well as creating the business model for implementation of the strategy.

Model support

Are you looking for the improvement of your existing or the completely new business model? Do you need the ideas how to best do that?

We help start-ups, entrepreneurs, small business and corporates with improving and designing (new) business models. Many organizations having a sound and proper business model in the past, see that their current model is not working anymore. It does not generate enough value (revenue, profit) as a result of changes in the environment. Credit crisis, 180-degrees change in the customer behavior, the role of the Internet and (free) access to information has made traditional models losing their value considerably. New models are a must have! What are business models of the future?

In search for new business models.

One can learn a lot from the customer insights, trends, and even from the other companies from different industries. But how can you as a starter or established company design new

business models answering the ever changing context? What would be the valid revenue model? How do you find a business model that suits you? And how do you find a model that suits your company? In other words… How can you come up with new business models?

Methodology.

We direct the process of describing, analyzing, innovating and visualizing the business models. With you and your team. Our intensive yet energizing workshops (2-5 days) help you to come up with new models in a short period of time.

Depending on your needs, the workshops may involve analyzing your strategic and financial position; assessment of the existing model through (internal and external) context scan and fresh watching; facilitated brainstorming on new models; development of the business model prototypes, and designing the action plan for the implementation.

We work with the “Business Model Canvas” by Alex Osterwalder and Visual Planning Systems™ and facilitation toolsets by The Grove.

Visualization

Why it is important to visualize your business model?

Visual thinking is indispensable to working with business models*. By visual thinking we mean using visual tools such as pictures, sketches, diagrams and Post-it™ notes. This is one example of the visualized business model of Sellaband.

The advantages of visualisation of your business model

Drawings can be more powerful than Post-it™ notes because people react more strongly to images than to words. Pictures deliver messages instantly. Simple drawings can express ideas that otherwise require many words. Let look at how the visual thinking could be applied to business modeling.

1) Understand the Essence. The Business Model Canvas poster is a conceptual map that functions as a visual language with corresponding grammar. By sketching out all the elements of the Canvas you immediately give viewers the big picture of the business model. Understanding a business model requires not only knowing the compositional elements, but also grasping the interdependencies between elements. This is easier to express visually than through words.

2) Enhance Dialogue. The Business Model Canvas is a shared visual language. It provides not only a reference point, but a vocabulary and grammar that helps people better understand each other. Once people are familiar with the Canvas, it becomes a powerful enabler of focused discussion about business model elements and how they fit together.

3) Explore Ideas. The Business Model Canvas is a bit like an artist’s canvas. A visual business model also provides opportunity for play, and modify one element or another.

4) Improve Communication. When it comes to communicating the business model and its most important elements, a picture is truly worth a thousand words. The visual depiction is the best way to create a shared understanding of the business model, be it internally or externally.
