In 2010, our founder and CEO, Patrick Van Der Pijl, had a groundbreaking idea: “What if there was a better way to tackle the complex problems businesses face today?” His idea was to blend creative thinking with tried-and-tested business methods to drive business growth. A methodology that was inherently customer-centric, lean, and iterative. This innovative approach led to the creation of a whole new discipline called business design, and with it, Business Models Inc., one of the very first agencies of its kind in the world.
Patrick did not stop there. He sparked a major shift in how businesses approach problems by producing a book titled "Business Model Generation." This book, celebrated as one of the top 12 business books ever by USA Today, has reached over 5 million people worldwide. He also wrote two more books, "Design a Better Business" and "Business Models Shifts," to spread his pioneering ideas even further.
What began as a small, one-person operation has grown into a global consultancy company. Today, we have more than 50 creative and entrepreneurial spirits across 6 locations and 4 continents who specialize in strategy, innovation, customer experience, and transformation. We have worked with over 300 clients from various industries and of all sizes.
Our innovative work has earned us wide recognition and several awards. In 2017, we were honored with the Design Pioneer Award from Good Design Australia. We continued to receive accolades in the following years, including a prestigious award from the Design Management Institute and more Good Design Awards. Our most recent achievement in 2023 was winning the Social Impact category at the Good Design Australia Awards for our project with the Housing Action Lab in Brisbane.
