OMRON
OMRON, a global player in medical equipment and health solutions, wanted to redesign its product packaging and develop one unified global packaging system. Through customer research with video surveys in four countries, consumer expectations were made clear, enabling OMRON to implement new packaging designs and establish a global system to boost sales.

The challenge
OMRON needed a packaging strategy that appeals to consumers and convinces them to choose its products, with a uniform and consistent appearance to strengthen the brand and increase market share across different geographical markets. After an external agency created concept designs, the remaining challenge was to validate them in the target markets with the customer perspective at the center.
Our approach
BMI conducted video surveys in four countries to collect both qualitative and quantitative insights on how consumers reacted to new packaging designs versus existing packaging and competitors. Through step-by-step iteration, elements that prevented purchase were identified and designs continuously improved, linking design preferences and success factors per geographical market and leading to a validated proof design.
The results
- New qualitative and quantitative insights into consumer packaging preferences across four geographical markets, enabling informed, customer-focused design decisions.
- A deep understanding of value drivers and obstacles in the packaging concepts, aligning the strategy with target-audience needs.
- A validated packaging design system and an iterative, customer-focused testing process OMRON can reuse to keep optimizing designs.
The method stayed with the team. It always does.
