HELM AG
HELM AG, a Hamburg-based family-owned company and one of the largest independent chemical companies worldwide, set out to transition from a profit-driven to an impact-driven business. With BMI, CEO Stephan Schnabel and his team co-created the HELMbild 2030 strategic frame, rallying 1,600 employees behind a shared vision for positive impact.

The challenge
Transitioning from a profit-oriented company to one that equally takes into account people, planet and profit, together with partners, is a tough challenge, especially for a leading company in the chemical industry, a sector notoriously impactful on biodiversity loss and climate change.
Our approach
BMI started with a deep dive into HELM's history to distill how value was created, then fostered a sense of urgency by bringing in experts on equality, biodiversity and climate change. The HELMbild 2030 vision and high-level strategy were co-created in a 1.5-day workshop with 200 employees from across the globe, and the launch was designed as a catalyst for local conversations across the whole organization.
The results
- A co-created, sustainable strategic frame towards 2030 (HELMbild 2030) that shifts value creation across environmental, social, economic and emotional dimensions.
- A transformative movement within the organization, with every employee engaged in the change journey.
- Tangible progress in line with the vision, such as partnerships for circular solutions in the chemical sector and tools for precision farming.
The method stayed with the team. It always does.
